Thanks to Al Zito and Carolyn Morris, Southlake was protected from XTO’s second padsite.
The Joe Wright site only got 4 votes of approval from Terrell, Muller, Bledsoe, and Hill (Wang “remembered” 4 days before the vote to recuse himself because he owns property close to the site. He remembered after citizens pointed out this conflict of interest to the city council). The site needed 5 votes under super majority requirements (thanks P&Z). Zito and Morris both voted no after the city finally released a Risk Analysis study regarding the pad site, it’s close proximity to the Nu Star fuel storage depot and our neighborhoods. Having the study for only a few days, 4 of our city council members were still ready to approve that night without the additional study recommended in the report! XTO can reapply for the Joe Wright site or look for another location to drill. This was a great victory for Southlake’s Neighborhoods but we need to change our council to protect our future.
As shown above, this site was in very close proximity to our schools. Emissions would be much closer than the 1 mile (5280 ft) buffer recommended by the Ft. Worth League of Neighborhoods last month. Their independent study found Carbon Disulfide levels dangerously high surrounding multiple pad sites. Mayor Terrell believes pad sites are perfectly safe, ask him!
Energy Transfer was proposing to TRY a “safer route” for their pipeline away from homes only after our protests. They also used the threat of a pipeline route “straight through Southlake” to try and force approval of the pad site by our council. Fortunately Morris and Zito stood firm. We don't want a pipeline in our back yards, but a pad site will be in our air, water, soil, and roads.
Now Mayor Terrell and his Gas Gang can tell us they fought for our safety, but the truth is Joe Wright failed only because they could not “shenanigan” their way out of super majority on this site like they did with the Milner site.
